By now the world is familiar with the astonishing array of cars on show during Monterey motor week; whether it’s on the track, the concours lawn or at the various auctions, you’re guaranteed to come across cars you’ve probably never seen before.
The lot list for Mecum’s auction at Monterey reads like the best who’s who of supercar and hypercar icons. Even by the standards of Monterey, this looks like an extraordinary sale.
Ready? If you missed out on the hybrid hypercar trio, there’s the chance to buy a LaFerrari, 918 Weissach Pack and a McLaren P1. Not only that, but the LaFerrari is one of only three in matt black, the P1 was the first offered for public sale and the 918 is in bare carbon with a plastic wrap. Going from the estimates, set aside anything up to $9m for all three.
For something more traditional, there’s the opportunity to purchase a 288 GTO, F40 and a pair of Enzos. All are very low mileage, all are red (bar the black Enzo, one of four apparently) and all carry estimates of two million dollars or more.
Fancy something a bit racier? Not only is there an Aston Vulcan available ($2.3-$3.3m), but also a pair of Porsche 962s; one a Daytona 24-hour winner, the other as seen in the lead image here and driven at the Watkins Glen Continental 500. Those in addition to an original Shelby GT350 Mustang, a Lola Indy Car and a Porsche 993 GT2 Evo.
The list goes on. If the classic stable is a little undernourished, it can be replenished with a Maserati Ghibli Spyder, a Miura P400, a Toyota 2000GT, an Iso Grifo and a wealth of 911s – take your pick!
We could go on but, with 600 lots being sold, it would take quite a while! Suffice it to say at least one of your dream cars is going under the hammer at this auction; it promises to be an incredible sale. Don’t think it’s all super exotica either. This Cadillac Eldorado is apparently so undesirable it doesn’t even have an estimate. Happy bidding!
